Hi, I’m Mel, Founder and CEO of Urban Ink.
My journey began around 10 years ago, although at the time, I had no idea that I would eventually be sharing the story I’m about to tell.
Back in 2015, I was working as an IT Application Manager for a software company. As part of an initiative led by the CEO, a number of us were asked to present ideas that could help elevate the company’s brand and increase its market presence.
Marketing wasn’t my area of expertise, but it had always fascinated me, so I gave the challenge some serious thought.
My idea was simple: enable our 250-strong workforce to wear company-branded clothing that was modern and stylish enough to be worn both inside and outside the office. The concept could then be expanded into future phases, with branded apparel being made available for conventions, customer meetings, events and other occasions.
The idea received a great deal of praise, but ultimately, it was never implemented. I was told that it wasn’t straightforward to find a company capable of meeting the requirements, and the business decided to pursue a more traditional approach instead.
However, that was the moment a small seed was planted in my mind.
I kept coming back to the idea. How could something that seemed so simple be so difficult to deliver? Was it really that challenging to find a company that would genuinely listen to what a business wanted, understand its vision and then deliver it properly?
Then came COVID.
Like many people, I had a lot of time to reflect on what I wanted from the future. I began thinking more seriously about the legacy I wanted to leave behind and, once again, I found myself returning to that idea from 2015.
I started to explore how I could bring it to life.
A few years later, I launched Boss Print — a small version of the original concept and, in many ways, a pilot project. I wanted to build something genuinely from the ground up, without relying on investors or taking unnecessary financial risks. Most importantly, I wanted to prove that the concept could work.
And it did.
Fast forward to today, and I’m incredibly proud to introduce the next phase of that journey.
Welcome to Urban Ink.
